Huddersfield vs West Bromwich Albion Predictions
- Both teams have failed to score in six of Huddersfield Town’s last nine home Championship matches.
- Both teams have failed to score in ten of West Brom’s last 14 away league fixtures.
- Seven of the last eight head-to-head meetings between the clubs have seen one team fail to score.
Schofield must work overtime to revive struggling Terriers
West Brom walloped Hull City 5-2 last weekend, but their scoring ratio away from home is such that Saturday’s trip to Huddersfield is not guaranteed to be a barn burner. Albion were toothless for 45 minutes at Middlesbrough in their season opener before finding an equaliser in the second half and they could only manage a consolation in a 2-1 defeat at Blackburn on their most recent away trip.
Steve Bruce’s side were recently held for 90 minutes at home by Cardiff and it took 37 minutes for them to even muster a shot on target against Hull, before everything clicked and a flood of goals followed. It feels a bit feast or famine from the Baggies right now and makes their match odds for the victory at John Smith’s Stadium look quite unappealing.
Huddersfield have had a week and a half off because of the postponement at Coventry last weekend and their early Carabao Cup exit. Danny Schofield will have been working overtime during the last few days to fix several issues that have emerged this season.
Both teams to score no could be a canny bet
The Terriers look vulnerable at the back, lack bite in midfield and are totally ineffective on set pieces – which was one of their greatest strengths last season. Sorba Thomas’ form has taken a nosedive with the Welsh wideman now even struggling to beat the first man with his corner deliveries.
Other players haven’t stepped up and it’s hard to see what Schofield can do apart from demand Town wade into the transfer market with funds that don’t look like materialising.
As far as Saturday’s game goes, the only thing Town have going for them is freshness, but even that might not be enough to overcome a talented Baggies side. Backing one or both teams not to find the target is an enticing bet based on stats going back to last season with a 1-0 away win looking like the correct score forecast that stands the best chance.
