Tip Reasoning

  • Hull City have conceded fewer than two goals in four of their last five Championship home games.
  • Hull City have conceded fewer than two goals in eight of their last ten Championship matches.
  • West Brom have scored fewer than two goals in 12 of their last 13 away league contests.

Baggies unlikely to bag multiple goals in Hull

West Brom’s scoring touch continues to elude them and it’s unlikely much will change when they take on one of the Championship’s sturdiest defences in Hull on Saturday.

Shota Arveladze’s side may be lying 19th in the table, but only five clubs in the division have conceded fewer goals over the course of the last 12 matches. The Tigers have recorded five clean sheets in their last ten league games and kept free-scoring Fulham down to just one goal in their recent defeat at MKM Stadium.

So the task ahead of Steve Bruce’s beleaguered Baggies will not be simple on Saturday – particularly as this team has scored just once in their last seven Championship games. Monday’s miserable 2-0 home defeat to Swansea was another case in point as WBA hit the post twice before conceding two goals to a team that hadn’t scored in their previous four on the road.

Bruce’s strikers facing crisis of confidence

They hit the woodwork twice at Luton too, so they are still creating chances, but the confidence of Callum Robinson – who has not scored in his last nine league appearances – is pretty much on the floor now. Andy Carroll is still yet to find the net either since his mid-season move, so the question of where the goals are going to come from seems to have no easy answers for Bruce.

The stats lend themselves easily to opposing Albion to score multiple goals in this match with West Brom having not managed that in 12 of their last 13 away league games and Hull City rarely conceding more than once in their last ten Championship fixtures.

No team in the division has scored fewer away goals than WBA in the last three months and their fans will dread going behind again as this set of players has shown little backbone of late. A 1-0 Hull City win would appear the smartest correct score play as, although the Tigers have failed to score in five of their last ten homes, they average 1.0 goals per game across that spell.
