      Hull vs Middlesbrough Predictions

Hull are in outstanding form and finally managed to displace Brighton, who had led the league since August, at the top of the table in midweek with a 2-0 win at Brentford. It was their 5th straight win in all competitions and extended their unbeaten run to 11 matches. It also marked a 4th consecutive victory to nil in the league.

Although the league table suggests otherwise it is Middlesbrough who have arguably been the more impressive side though and they’ve put in some really dominant performances so far whereas Hull have tended to just edge games. However Middlesbrough have had the odd game where they just have failed to get things going in an attacking sense.

1-0 losses to Bristol City and Cardiff aren’t the sort of results you expect from would-be Champions and they had failed to score in three successive matches prior to their current winning run of 4 games which includes their penalty shoot-out win at Old Trafford in the Capital One Cup. They could only beat bottom club Rotherham 1-0 at home in midweek and in cases where their attacking players aren’t at their best, their defence usually is.

This is a clash between the sides with the best two defensive records in the league so goals are likely to be at a premium. Both teams have scored inside the 90 minutes in none of Hull’s last 5 matches and only 1 of Middlesbroughs. The importance of the game will if anything add to what is likely to be a relatively cautious approach from both managers and backing ‘No’ in the ‘Both teams to score’ market at 4/5 is surely the way to go.

Of the two sides, Hull are certainly the more consistent and with home advantage they will feel confident of shading it. They are unbeaten at the Kingston Communications Stadium this season, winning 7 of their 9 matches and have only conceded 3 home league goals.

This is unlikely to turn into a high-scoring classic so consider taking a punt on Hull to win 1-0 at 6/1.
