Hungary vs Cyprus Predictions

  • Hungary have scored more than two goals on only one occasion in their last 13 games.
  • Cyprus have lost four of their last five away matches, scoring just the once during that run.
  • Cyprus have conceded more than two goals only once in 13 away games since mid-2018.

Cyprus can make Magyars sweat for goals

Hungary have filled their friendly fixture list with easy-looking games as they prepare to face France, Germany and reigning champions Portugal in the group of death at Euro 2020.

It is an interesting approach and Marco Rossi’s men should have their pride intact for that opening clash with Cristiano Ronaldo and co even if they haven’t faced much quality in the build-up.

Cyprus won’t bring much with them to Budapest and this looks set up to be a classic confidence-builder where Hungary can run out comfortable winners without having to dip into their reserves.

That said, don’t expect a glut of goals because the Magyars aren’t as magnificent as they used to be – particularly without injured playmaker Dominik Szoboszlai.

Hungary rely heavily on Adam Szalai to get their goals and, although he is bagging once in every three games internationally, the veteran striker lacks help.

That is why they seldom score more than two goals in a game and probably won’t here either because Cyprus will sit in a low block and try to keep the hosts out.

Taking Hungary and Under 2.5 goals should prove profitable here with the prospects of Cyprus nicking one on the break looking very slim to us.

A 2-0 win for Rossi’s men appeals most as a correct score play because Hungary are averaging exactly two goals per game at home since the start of 2020 and Cyprus very rarely concede more than twice.
