      Hungary vs Romania Predictions

Euro 2016 qualifying Group F is another contest set up for an absolutely fascinating finish over its last few games. With Northern Ireland theoretically recording a victory against Faroe Islands, a lot of the attention will be on this crucial clash between Hungary an Romania. The hosts are in third place, while the visitors lead the group, but a win (depending on goal difference) could result in the teams swapping places.

The two teams drew in their previous group game and actually, Romania have ascended to the top of Group F more by not losing, rather than winning. They drew with Hungary at home, drew with Northern Ireland away and then did what they are expected to do by beating Finland, Greece and Faroe Islands. A 2-0 win at home against N.Ireland in November last year is perhaps the one notable win of their campaign.

Romania aren’t short of some promising footballers and the performance of domestic side FC Astra shows that the talent is coming through. The national team is currently built around rigid discipline and strong defensive play. They’ve conceded just one goal in the qualifying campaign so far (scoring seven) and it would be a mistake to expect a higher scoring game here.

Hungary aren’t exactly a bunch of high-flying goal-scorers themselves. In fact, there have been just eight goals in total through six qualifying games, five scored for and three against. 1-0 wins over Finland (twice) and Faroe Island are hardly inspiring and even a desperately struggling Greece managed to draw 0-0 on their visit to Budapest.

They lost their previous home tie against a contender in this group, falling 2-1 to Northern Ireland in their opener. It’s going to take a flawless defensive performance to better that in this case.

      Three Reasons for Betting Tips

      1. No scoring ambition

Neither team is going to set themselves up to make this an interesting game, which from a spectator’s perspective is poor, but from a betting perspective makes predicting a game without goals relatively good money.

      2. Romania are the better side

We can look at the group table and the draw in the previous meeting, we can try and talk Hungary up a little. However, in reality, Romania are a decent side that should make Euro 2016 and be a tough match-up for some of the better teams, while Hungary are a team that have some decent defensive discipline.

      3. Set pieces

The best chance of goals being scored in this game by a margin is from a set piece of some description. Both sides have some decent players that could step up and take quality free kicks and corners and both teams have people they can pile into the box.
