Luxembourg to Win

Reason for tip

Luxembourg know they will be able to put pressure on the top two in the group with a win. The visitors will be desperate to respond after a humbling defeat to Portugal last time out and they can bounce back with a victory against an Iceland outfit who they overcame 3-1 in the reverse fixture.

Luxembourg 2-1

Reason for tip

Luxembourg can win in Reykjavik but this game should be close. Iceland have been poor in qualifying but goals haven’t been a problem as they have hit 10 in six games, so back the visitors to grind out a 2-1 win.

Yvandro Borges To Score Anytime

Reason for tip

Luxembourg’s Yvandro Borges Sanches scored in the first meeting between these two sides and is a good outside bet for a goal here. The 19-year-old has two goals in six qualifiers and should be desperate to make an impact as he has struggled for game time at club side Borussia Monchengladbach in the early stages of the season.

Iceland vs Luxembourg Predictions

  • Luxembourg won the reverse fixture 3-1.
  • Iceland have five defeats in their last seven games.
  • Luxembourg have three wins and just one loss in their last six away games.

Luxembourg looking to close the gap

Luxembourg head to Iceland on Friday knowing they have a fantastic chance to put pressure on the top two sides in Group J.

Portugal lead the way with 18 points, with Slovakia second on 13. The top two meet in Porto on Friday so Luxembourg, who are third with 10 points on the board, could give their hopes of reaching the tournament in Germany a big boost with a victory.

Iceland’s challenge has faltered

Iceland aren’t out of contention just yet with four rounds of fixtures still to play but they need close to a perfect finish to break into those top two places.

The hosts have lost five of their last seven games and have two defeats in their last three at home. Luxembourg were humbled 9-0 by Portugal in their last game and that is a concern, but that is also the kind of result that can inspire a reaction and as they still have a real chance of qualifying they can bounce back with a win in Reykjavík against an Iceland side they overcame 3-1 in the reverse fixture.

Luxembourg are a big price and there is some appeal in backing the visitors in the double chance market, but it could be worthwhile going bold here and taking the away side to win the game.

Goals haven’t necessarily been the issue for Iceland as they have managed 10 in their six qualifiers. Both teams scored in the first meeting and we may see goals at both ends again, so I’m backing the visitors to grind out a 2-1 victory.

Yvandro Borges Sanches scored in the first meeting between these two sides and at a big price looks a good outside bet for a goal here. The 19-year-old has two goals in six qualifiers and should be desperate to make an impact as he has struggled for game time at club side Borussia Monchengladbach in the early stages of the season.
