Elfsborg to Win

Reason for tip

IFK Göteborg have lost three of their five home league games this season and were beaten 5-2 on Monday. They will be without suspended midfielder Malick Yalcouye – widely regarded as the Allsvenskan’s top talent – and could struggle against an Elfsborg side who have competed well away to each of the top three recently without reward.

Elfsborg 2-1

Reason for tip

Elfsborg have won two of their last four games and scored ten goals in their last four games. The Yellow Ones can notch a couple against a Blavittb side that fell apart in their 5-2 loss at AIK on Monday. A 2-1 away win is the preferred play as IFK have scored no more than once in any of their five previous home games this season.

IFK Goteborg vs Elfsborg Predictions

  • IFK Göteborg have lost three of their five home league games this season and were beaten 5-2 on Monday
  • Elfsborg have won two of their last four games amid a tough run of away fixtures
  • IFK Göteborg will be without suspended midfielder Malick Yalcouye – widely regarded as the Allsvenskan’s top talent

Midfielder blow could make Elfsborg’s job easier

Elfsborg can end a miserable run of away results with a victory at Gamla Ullevi on Saturday when they face an IFK Göteborg side coming off a 5-2 thrashing against AIK Solna.

The Yellow Ones have lost five road games on the bounce since a very early-season win at rock-bottom Vasteras, but circumstances have aligned to make this trip a very winnable one.

Blavitt fell apart in their 5-2 humbling at Friends Arena, conceding four goals in the final 23 minutes of a match they had in their hands when 2-1 up just after half-time. Also, they lost star midfielder Malick Yalcouye to a one-game suspension after he picked up a yellow card and it might turn out to be his final game for the club before an anticipated big-money move.

Thelin could head to Scotland on a high

This is the last round of fixtures before the Allsvenskan takes a break for a month and IFK will be desperate to pull away from the relegation zone.

But they have lost three of their five previous home games and might struggle to impose themselves against an Elfsborg side that sit eighth in the standings but are only two points off fourth.

This will be Jimmy Thelin’s last game in charge of Elfsborg before he takes over at Aberdeen and his side, who have faced each of the top three away from home recently and were not disgraced in any of those games, can send him off to Scotland with a victory.
