Independiente Del Valle vs Flamengo Predictions

  • Independiente del Valle are unbeaten in 23 continental home games, winning 14 times in the process.
  • Independiente del Valle are unbeaten in 4 home games, winning twice and conceding just once in the process.
  • Flamengo haven’t won any of their last 5 continental away games, losing twice in the process.
  • Both of said defeats came against Ecuadorian opponents.

Independiente del Valle looking to cause an upset

After reaching the final of the Copa Libertadores a few years ago, Independiente del Valle finally secured continental glory by winning the Copa Sudamericana last year. For a club of their size, Independiente’s success in recent years has been simply astounding and they now have another chance to cause an upset up against Libertadores champions Flamengo for the right to be crowned Recopa Sudamericana champions.

There can be no doubting Independiente are huge underdogs but if any side on the continent can pull off the unthinkable; it’s them. Over two legs, this will be a tough one to win but with altitude on their side on Thursday and unbeaten in 23 continental home games, winning 14 times in the process, the hosts can at least be confident of securing a good first leg result.

Flamengo arrive as big favourites

Meanwhile, with big financial backing behind them and with a squad possessing huge quality, Jorge Jesus’ Flamengo side cruised to the Brazilian Serie A and Copa Libertadores titles last year. Mengao are by far and away the best team in South America and they’ll now have the Recopa Sudamericana title within their sights.

That being said, although they’ll likely win the second leg by multiple goals, there is a slight air of vulnerability about Flamengo heading into this trip. The high altitude of Quito will limit their ability to play with their regular intensity and having failed to win any of their last 5 continental away games, their prospects don’t look as bright as usual going into the game.

The hosts could edge ahead

Ultimately, whilst Flamengo are clearly the better of the two sides, they could struggle in this match. The significance of the altitude factor cannot be stressed enough and it’ll be impossible for Jorge Jesus’ men to play in their usual manner in the energy sapping conditions.

All things considered, we see good value in backing the hosts on the Draw No Bet line here and are more than happy to do so at current odds. They are very impressive as hosts in continental action and with Flamengo having lost their last two trips to Ecuador, we think they could come unstuck once again via a narrow 1-0 margin of defeat.
