Inter Milan vs Liverpool Predictions
- Liverpool have won their last six games
- The Reds had a 100% record in the group stage
- Inter have won only three of their last 11 home Champions League games
- Mo Salah scored in five of Liverpool’s six group stage matches
Reds on a roll
Liverpool return to Champions League action having claimed their sixth straight win at the weekend. It was a workmanlike victory over Burnley which continued that run, but the Reds have kept their good form rolling ahead of this trip to Milan.
The visitors are also in fine form in Europe, having finished a potential group of death with a 100% record last time out. The Reds were able to win home and away against Serie A leaders AC Milan along the way, so can they topple the Italian champions next?
Salah key for Klopp
Sadio Mane may have got the better of him at AFCON and Diogo Jota has stepped up in his absence, but Mo Salah is still the key man for Liverpool. Their Champions League hopes rest on him, while his record in this competition speaks for itself.
Salah heads into this clash with 32 goals in 49 appearances in Europe’s top competition. Only Cristiano Ronaldo and Robert Lewandowski have scored more goals across their first 50, so the Egyptian is impressive territory. Back him to trouble Inter after scoring in five of six group games.
Inter to fall short again
Antonio Conte may have made Inter champions of Italy, but their record in Europe isn’t great. The Nerazzurri have won three of their last 11 home games in this competition. This is their first time in the knockout round since 2012, while they have made the last eight only twice since 2006.
Inter head into this game with two wins in 90 minutes across their last seven, while Liverpool are in stellar form. Back the Reds to claim a first leg victory on Wednesday night.
Liverpool did concede in both wins over Milan in the group stage, while the hosts have scored in 10 of their last 11 games. I can see the Nerazzurri getting on the scoresheet again, so a 2-1 victory for the Reds is my correct score prediction.
