Juventus vs Sevilla Predictions
It has been a nightmare start to the season for both clubs in the league and both have managed to return only 5 points from their opening 6 fixtures. Their poor showings have been something of a mystery especially when you consider the impressive way in which both started their Champions League campaigns in what is perhaps the group of death.
Juventus came from behind to win 2-1 at Manchester City while Sevilla confidently dispatched Borussia Monchengladbach 3-0 in Spain. Both results were supposed to kick-start their seasons but it didn’t quite work out that way. Juve beat Genoa in their next game but a draw with Fiorentina and a defeat to Napoli have followed. Sevilla meanwhile lost their next two league matches before claiming their first La Liga win of the season at the 6th attempt with a not entirely convincing 3-2 win at home to Rayo Vallecano at the weekend.
Both sides really enjoyed their European outings last season and will probably be relieved to get back to continental action on Wednesday. Juventus won 5 out of 6 at home in the Champions League last year and it was the core reason why they made it all the way to Berlin.
Of the two you’d probably be more worried about Sevilla right now. They lost a few key players over the summer including star striker Carlos Bacca and it was hardly the ideal preparation for the bigger challenge of Champions League football. The poor start of Juventus is a bit more of a mystery given they’ve still got the same core squad of players that went all the way to the final in this competition last year and cruised to the Serie A title.
Another Champions League game is probably a welcome distraction from their league woes and at 10/11 they look really good value to win this and assume pole position in the group ahead of 2 games with what is probably the weakest side in it.
Sevilla were almost always positive on the road during their Europa League wins of the last two seasons and it clearly served them well. They are unlikely to divert too much from that approach just because they are now in the Champions League and you can see them scoring here against what hasn’t been the most convincing Juve defence so far.
However much like it did in Manchester a fortnight ago, the quality of the Italian Champions should ultimately shine through and at 15/2 you can back them to win 2-1.
