Karlsruher vs Bochum Predictions

  • Bochum are unbeaten in four league matches
  • Ten of the last 12 meetings have finished as draws
  • Bochum have scored 43 goals this season, only top-two Arminia Bielfeld and Hamburg have scored more

Prolific Bochum can extend unbeaten run

Karlsruher and Bochum were both victorious on the Bundesliga II’s return last weekend but the visitors produced arguably the most impressive performance of the opening round of fixtures.

Bochum took their unbeaten run to four with an emphatic 3-0 win over fourth-placed Heidenheim, enjoying 54 per cent possession and limiting their highflying guests to just three shots on target.

That win moved Bochum, whose only defeat in six outings has come against title chasers Stuttgart, four points clear of the automatic relegation places and should have provided them with the confidence to continue their surge up the table.

Bochum have now netted 43 league goals this season, only two top Arminia Bielfeld and Hamburg have scored more, and we predict that firepower could prove the decisive factor against a Karlsruher side who sit second bottom and two points from safety.

Karlsruher unlikely to follow up

Relegation candidates Karlsruher made home advantage count against Darmstadt last weekend but things may not prove so straightforward when fast-improving Bochum come calling.

Darmstadt didn’t register a shot on target last weekend but it was more through their wastefulness rather than Karlsuher’s brilliance and punters should take the 2-0 result lightly.

Prior to the lockdown, Karlsruher were winless in five attempts at home, failing to score in upsets against Wehen Wiesbaden, Holstein Kiel and Nuremberg. They also shipped five in defeat to Greuther Further in that time and their inconsistencies make them vulnerable.

Ten of the last 12 meetings have finished all-square but no side has conceded more than Karlsruher (46 goals) this season and those defensive frailties could be punished by such explosive opponents.

Bochum to deliver

Bochum have been the team to watch for neutrals in Bundesliga 2 this season with 88 goals netted across their 26 league games (an average of 3.38 per game) and they can play their part in another high-scoring encounter at Karlsruher.

Despite having just won seven times this term, Bochum have scored two or more in half of their 26 games and few teams in the second tier can call upon the services of a striker as talented as 23-year-old Silvere Ganvoula, who already has 12 goals to his name.

Those looking for a correct score prediction should consider a 3-1 away win. Bochum have netted three goals on seven occasions this season and their prioritising of attack makes a second clean sheet on the spin extremely unlikely.
