Kosovo vs Montenegro Predictions
The hosts continue to dream of a place at Euro 2020 despite starting this group as rank outsiders. They head into this clash following a narrow friendly win over Gibraltar, but this week’s clash really decides where Kosovo go from here. Can they see off Montenegro at home, or will the hosts slip off the pace?
The hosts have enjoyed an impressive campaign so far. They bridged a successful Nations League run and the Euro 2020 qualifiers with ease, producing an unbeaten run which only ended in their clash with England last month. Their 5-3 loss was a thriller, but also a setback for their qualification hopes. England’s loss in Prague hasn’t helped them, as Kosovo are now four points off second.
The visitors are battling with Bulgaria to avoid last place. Montenegro have lost three of their six matches so far, and are yet to claim a win in this group. They won’t be making it to Euro 2020, having lost five of their last eight qualifiers. Things aren’t going well for them after just one victory in their last nine overall, while this is likely to be another disappointing outing.
Kosovo is fast becoming a difficult prospect for visiting sides. They’ve been in solid form here on late, with a 10 game unbeaten run behind them. The hosts are aiming to add to their fine record, especially given that this is their final home game before next month’s second-place showdown with the Czech Republic. A win here would see them make that trip with just a point between the two sides.
We expect Kosovo to get a result here, with eight wins in their last 10 home matches. They’re really adapting to international football, while the visitors make this trip in dire form. Montenegro are winless in three away games, while they’ve lost two of those three. Defeats at Serbia and the Czech Republic show where this Montenegro side sit, especially given that they conceded five goals across those two trips.
Meanwhile, Kosovo have scored twice in each of their last three European Championship qualifiers. The hosts have scored 22 times across their last 10 here, which should set them up to see off Montenegro. We are backing the hosts to score over 1.5 goals in this clash given that form, while we are backing a 2-1 victory for a Kosovo side who have won three of their last four games.
