Galaxy have firepower to knock Sounders off the top
Los Angeles Galaxy put their 100 per cent home record on the line this Sunday when Western Conference leaders Seattle arrive to do battle at Dignity Health Sports Park.
The Galaxy have been mightily impressive on home turf this season with eight goals scored and only three conceded.
Striker Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez has stepped up in a big way with five of his seven MLS-leading goals having come at home and he is in direct competition with Seattle’s six-goal Raul Ruidiaz here.
But the Sounders’ striker has gone off the boil of late, netting just once in his last four outings.
Currently averaging 2.33 points per game on their travels, Seattle have a better away record than all but two of their conference rivals do at home.
However, the underlying stats suggest they have been fortunate to have only conceded twice on the road.
Unless Ruidiaz returns to his red hot early-season form we can’t see them getting much joy against a Galaxy defence that has kept-back-to-back clean sheets in Carson.
The visitors do have an excellent head-to-head record against Greg Vanney’s men with Seattle having lost just once to the Galaxy over their last 12 matchups (W6 D5).
But Galaxy have the firepower to give Seattle more trouble this time and we are taking them to score at least two on Sunday.
A correct score play on a 2-1 home win appeals as the Sounders have scored in all three away games in 2021 and on their last three trips to Carson.
