Tip Reasoning

Las Palmas would have quite fancied their chances of finishing above Getafe this season but they’ve come nowhere near managing that. While the Gran Canaria side have long since given up the fight and will be playing Segunda Division football next term, Getafe are battling for a place in Europe in their first season back at this level.

It’s a fight they are very capable of winning too. They head into this match-day in 7th place, which will be good enough for Europa League action next term. This is clearly very winnable while they also have bottom club Malaga still to play so they will fancy they can see off the likes of Sevilla and Girona in this unlikely battle for Europe that is developing.

They could have really stolen a march on their rivals last weekend but could only draw 1-1 at home to Girona. That ended a three game winning streak but they still did well to clinch a point having been reduced to 10 men in the First Half. As well as the red, there were six yellows for Getafe in that match and they have been described as the dirtiest team in La Liga history.

It all means they have five players banned here but most of their key men are still available and they have some decent options in reserve. José Bordalás’ men may not have won many friends but Las Palmas are a good example of what happens when you try to play your way out of trouble with average players. Getafe have been a very solid unit throughout and have a bit more flair and creativity than they perhaps get credit for.

We should see evidence of that here given how bad Las Palmas are at the back. The Canary Islanders have the worst defensive record in the division with 2 goals per game conceded while they’ve let in 2.06 per home game this term. It’s no surprise then that 65% of their home games have ended in defeat.

With just 1 point from their last 6 games, it feels like they’ve basically given up and it will be a tough rebuilding job this summer in Las Palmas as they aim to bounce back. With Getafe still going well and really keen on sealing what would be just their third ever European campaign, backing Getafe to Win is surely the way to go here.

Las Palmas shipped four against a fairly low-scoring Alaves side in their last home game, so having a flutter on Getafe & Over 2.5 Goals could also be a decent punt.
