Las Palmas vs Levante Predictions
If this game was in the second half of the season it would probably be dubbed a relegation six-pointer but that may be a little unfair on Las Palmas who have high hopes of beating the drop after finally ending their long absence from La Liga in the play-offs in June.
They impressed on the opening day and were only narrowly beaten by big spending Atletico Madrid at the Vicente Calderon. A solitary and somewhat fortunate goal from Antoine Griezmann settled the game but Las Palmas will be much more confident of securing their first points back on Gran Canaria and against a Levante side who managed just 37 points last season and were beaten on the opening day of this one at home by Celta Vigo.
Las Palmas are very strong at home, winning 20 and losing just 2 of their last 28 games on home soil. This has the makings of an ideal game for them to adjust to life in the top flight against a Levante side that are established in the league but are unquestionably one of the weaker sides in it.
They have lost 9 of their 11 away league games in 2015 and stumbled and stuttered their way to survival last season rather than putting any convincing performances together.
All the focus will be on Las Palmas here and the game could see the return of Juan Carlos Valeron to the top flight at age of 40. The former Deportivo starlet has an abundance of La Liga experience and is back home on Gran Canaria and hoping for a swansong ending after helping his first club to promotion last season. He is far from a key player though these days but will provide the crowd with an enormous lift should he come off the bench and the atmosphere inside Estadio de Gran Canaria will make this a very tough examination for Levante.
Las Palmas have added well to the side that clinched promotion and could surprise a few people this year especially in the early weeks when they are still buzzing from clinching a dramatic promotion just a couple of months ago. The top flight excitement factor has to some extent gone for Levante now they are seasoned campaigners in this league and they may really struggle here. Las Palmas are odds on for the win but you can still get healthy returns at 17/20.
They showed their defensive capabilities last weekend against 2014 Primera Division champions Atletico and will offer more going forward against weaker opposition. They should be able to shut Levante out here and backing a 2-0 home win at 13/2 looks like the outstanding bet in the correct score market.
