Lazio vs Cagliari Predictions

Cagliari ended a three game losing streak away with a 2-1 at Inter Milan recently. Can they continue that away form when they head to the Italian capital on Wednesday night? They face a Lazio side who have dropped off a little in their push for the top three. They’re now four points off fourth, they can’t afford to let that gap open up any further.

Lazio’s problem is that they’re up against a pretty high scoring side here, which could make this a tricky fixture. Cagliari have scored 1.78 goals per game in their matches so far, averaging a goal in each of their away games. Their problem has been defensively, as they’ve conceded 2.5 goals in each of their outings on the road. Fixing that is a key part to improving their form.

It’s probably no surprise from those stats that Cagliari are a side who are usually involved in goals. Every match they’ve played this season has seen more than two, while they scored three at the weekend and still lost. They’ve managed to score two or more in each of their last four. Lazio need to be tight at the back for this visit, but will they be able to keep out the high scoring Rossoblu?

Lazio shipped two goals to Torino last weekend, while they drew 1-1 with Bologna in their last home game. While they had a strong defence early on, that’s quickly starting to fade. They’ve conceded 1.11 goals per game so far, Cagliari will fancy their chances of adding a few goals of their own to that tally, having scored nine in their last four.

One thing Lazio do have, is a habit of controlling the game against Cagliari. The visitors have been losing at the end of each half in their last three matches against their next opponents. Their first half record hasn’t been that impressive this season, the Rossoblu have scored 75% of their goals in the second half of games. They should have a chance of scoring in the second half here, as the hosts have conceded 70% of their goals after the break.

You might want to back the Biancocelesti to win both halves, judging by those stats. Lazio/Lazio on the half-time/full-time market is 5/4 with bet365, and that might be a way for you to get some extra value on the home win.

We’re going a little safer here, backing both teams to score in this clash. In Cagliari’s league fixtures this term, 78% have seen both teams get on the score-sheet. They’ve shown some clinical finishing on the road, averaging just over seven shots a game, scoring from 13% of them. Given that the hosts give away over 12 shots a game, and score 1.78 a match, BTTS looks likely. It’s priced at 7/10 with bet365.
