Lazio to Win

Reason for tip

Lecce won only three times at home last term and new boss Roberto D’Aversa has a questionable defensive record across his last two jobs. Lazio won an impressive 11 away games last term and they should see off a Lecce outfit who look set to struggle.

Lazio 2-1

Reason for tip

Lazio conceded home and away to Lecce last term and the last six meetings between the two have seen both teams score. Lazio are capable of getting forward and scoring a couple against this Lecce defence so back a 2-1 win.

Lecce vs Lazio Predictions

  • Lazio won 11 times on their travels last season
  • Lecce won only three times at their own ground in Serie A last term
  • New Lecce boss Roberto D’Aversa has struggled defensively in his last two jobs

Can Lazio match last season?

Maurizio Sarri led Lazio to an impressive second-place finish in Serie A last term, bringing the club back to the Champions League. They’ll be aiming for another strong campaign, but the departure of Sergej Milinkovic-Savic to Saudi Arabia is a major blow.

Their Champions League riches haven’t led to much spending, while the club have made a net profit on transfers this summer. For a manager like Sarri who sticks rigidly to his system, change isn’t ideal. However, the visitors should have enough quality to see off Lecce in their opener.

Lecce set to struggle

After keeping Lecce up last season, Marco Baroni departed the club and he was replaced by Roberto D’Aversa. He lasted just half a season at Sampdoria in his last job, with Samp conceding 43 goals during his 24 matches in charge.

While Samp have been a chaotic club for a while, D’Aversa also saw his Parma side concede 54 times in 23 games during his second spell at the club. That doesn’t bode well for Sunday, especially as Lecce won just three of their 19 home games last term.

Lazio won 11 times on their travels last term and they should prove too strong for a Lecce side who are likely to be disorganised at the back unless their new manager turns his career around. As a result, back Lazio to secure three points in their opener.
