Leeds to Win and Under 3.5 Match Goals
Leeds vs Wigan Predictions
- Leeds have won to nil in 43% of their home games.
- The hosts have seen under 3.5 goals in 79% of their home matches.
- Leeds have won 5 of their meetings with the bottom 6 so far, conceding only 2 goals.
- 9 of Wigan’s 10 away defeats have seen under 3.5 goals scored.
Boost for Leeds
If any Leeds fans turned their attention to this game on Tuesday, they might have had some concerns. Wigan’s 2-1 win at Elland Road last season is widely regarded as a turning point in Leeds’ promotion charge, as that was a hammer blow to their chances.
While 2-0 down to Millwall at home, this fixture looked more difficult that it seems on paper. However, fresh from a 3-2 turnaround in midweek, Leeds have renewed promotion hope.
Efficient Hosts
That thrilling win over Millwall was crucial for the promotion contenders, while it was also a rarity. Leeds fans don’t tend to see games like that here, and we don’t just mean Patrick Bamford scoring a brace. The hosts have consistently seen low scoring clashes here this season, thanks to their impressive defensive record.
The hosts have kept a clean sheet in 41% of their league games, winning to nil in 43% of their matches at Elland Road this term. However, the hosts have only scored over two goals in three of their 14 home matches this term. That’s seen 79% of their home games finish with fewer than four goals scored. While the hosts have yet to face any of the bottom six here this season, they’ve won five of six trips on the road, conceding just two goals in that run.
Limited Latics
While Wigan have seen plenty of high scoring away games, their defeats on the road have tended to be low scoring. So far this term the Latics have lost to nil in 40% of their trips, with four of their away games seeing them lose 1-0. Five of their 10 away losses have seen under 2.5 goals, while all but one of those defeats have seen fewer than three goals.
We don’t expect any repeat of Wigan’s heroics here, because they just don’t seem up to it. The Latics have won just two of their last 38 away matches in all competitions, so we’re going with Leeds. Given how low scoring their respective games have been, we are backing a home win and under 3.5 match goals as our tip in this one.
We’re also backing a comfortable 2-0 win for Leeds here, a repeat of their meeting at the DW Stadium earlier in the season. With Wigan conceding twice in five of their six trips to the league’s top nine sides, we’re backing them to lose 2-0 to a Leeds side who have seen 43% of their home matches finish with exactly two goals scored.
