Leganes vs Eibar Predictions
After finally banking their first league win of the season at home to Mallorca last weekend (1-0), Leganes’ joy was short lived as they suffered a 5-0 hammering against Real Madrid on Wednesday. Whilst not expected to get anything from Santiago Bernabeu, the manner of defeat was a punishing blow to La Liga’s bottom side, who are now six points adrift of safety going into Matchday 12.
In the end, Lega did quite well to keep the score down to five in midweek considering they were 2-0 down to Los Blancos inside eight minutes, but a stamina and morale sapping evening at Santiago Bernabeu is likely to have left its mark on Los Pepineros, who are now clear favourites to drop down to Segunda this season.
Lega have lost eight of their 11 league matches and have just five points on the board – a clear inability to score being the key issue for the Madrid based outfit with just five goals netted in total so far.
It feels like a no lose situation for Caretaker Manager Luis Cembranos at the moment, as any points gained can only aid his cause for keeping the job on a permanent basis, although there’s a real need for Lega to get something from this Sunday’s home clash, with Eibar considering Los Pepineros have daunting away fixtures against Real Sociedad and Sevilla upcoming, either side of a home encounter with reigning champions and league leaders Barca.
And despite their current position and midweek hiding in the derby, Leganes are favourites with the bookmakers for this weekend’s game – which can only be attributed to Eibar’s longstanding troubles on the road.
Los Armeros are without a win in six away matches this season following three draws and three defeats – the latest of those losses being dished out last Saturday by Valladolid (2-0).
Stretching back to last season, Jose Luis Mendilibar’s side have won just two of their last 26 away games, losing 12, and they are unquestionably the team to avoid most in La Liga when on their travels.
So despite a decent 2-1 win secured at home to Villarreal in midweek, it will come as no surprise to readers that the Basque outfit aren’t tempting us this weekend at around 11/4, although we’re far from keen to steam into Leganes either for obvious reasons.
There’s no getting away from the fact that this looks an extremely drab encounter on paper, as has been the case in most recent meetings with under 2.5 goals netted and either/both teams failing to score in four of the last five match-ups.
That’s our recommended wager for this Sunday’s clash and we’re also going to chance a 0-0 draw, based on Lega’s failure to score in 50% home games this season, with the same applying to Eibar in 50% their away fixtures.
