Leyton Orient looking for a win to lift the gloom
After securing their return to league football last season, this campaign was all about retaining League Two status for Leyton Orient. They’ve not been the most impressive of outfits but the hosts are currently just about on course to do that; currently 18th and 12 points clear of the drop zone having collected a 34 point total.
Facing another of the league’s worst sides this weekend, Leyton Orient will be targeting 3 points to build on their morale boosting 3-0 away win against basement boys Stevenage last time out. However, scoring regularly has been an issue and they have scored in both halves of just 13% of their home games.
The hosts are difficult to beat
Macclesfield Town’s well documented financial plight has certainly been a topic of conversation at the Moss Rose Ground, and with a low budget to recruit players, most thought that it would be a long and arduous season for the Silkmen. However, the players have bought in to the siege mentality and they have managed to show plenty of resolve in the face of that adversity and, despite back to back defeats, they come into this match in high spirits.
If we are to focus on matters on the pitch, then there is perhaps an area for concern which needs to be addressed sooner rather than later. The visitors have lost both of their last two matches and the sides below are starting to close the gap. It is easy to see where they need to improve though, as they have scored an average of just 0.80 goals per game on the road and have a poor points return as a result.
A drab game is expected
Ultimately, we’re expecting Saturday’s game to be dull and devoid of quality. There’s a reason why both of these sides are somewhere near the foot of the division and that’s because both are far from strong units and find it difficult to secure sequences of positive results. All things considered, we think two struggling sides will cancel each other out in this one and for that reason, feel that backing there to be less than 2.5 goals scored is the way to go.
In terms of a correct score tip, we can not cannot see there being too much to split these two sides but given the poor away record of Macclesfield, it is hard to see them getting a result this weekend. The hosts score an average of 1.27 goals per game at home and we think that backing them to earn a 1-0 win looks like a solid thing to do.
