Expect a Romanian reaction when Tricolorii take on Liechtenstein in their final Group J fixture on Sunday.

Mirel Radoi’s side lost their grip on a playoff berth when failing to find the back of the net against Iceland on Thursday and now need Arnar Vidarsson’s side to do them a favour against North Macedonia.

But Romania must also win their final game in Vaduz and the coach will want to sign off with a convincing display against the group minnows. The Blues-Reds are coming off their biggest defeat in 25 years – a 9-0 thrashing by Germany that looked on the cards once they were reduced to ten men in the ninth minute.

Liechtenstein will put men behind the ball

Martin Stocklasa cannot really try to be more defensive than his side, who play a 5-3-2 formation with all men behind the ball out of possession, already operate so Romania shouldn’t be surprised by what they will face on Sunday.

It is true that Romania’s attacking strengths are in transition and they may not get many chances to show their counter-attacking virtues in Vaduz, but Liechtenstein are ranked 190^th out of 210 national teams for a reason and their recent results show no sign of improvement.
