Hosts looking for a fast start

Defending Champions Lille will be incredibly disappointed with the fact that they’re languishing in midtable, but this fixture presents an opportunity to record back-to-back league victories for the first time in 2022. We could be in for an exciting start in this one as four of Lille’s previous five matches on home soil have witnessed the opening goal scored inside the opening 10 minutes. The opening goal may not go their way though when you consider that in the previous 34 Ligue campaigns they’ve played, only once have they conceded more goals at this stage of the season than the 35 they’ve currently shipped.

On paper, this looks as though it could be a straightforward home victory, given that Metz have secured a joint league-low four victories all season. They sit just a place above the bottom spot on goal difference and finding a consistent starting eleven has proved to be a difficult task for boss Frédéric Antonetti, with Metz among four teams to have used at least 35 players in the top-five European leagues this campaign. However, the Grenats have been defeated just once in their last six away games and it’s on the road where they’ve felt more comfortable, claiming 65% of their total points tally when playing away.

Both defences to be breached

Both teams have hit the back of the net with regularity in Lilles recent matches and given Metz will come into this one confident of picking up a result, we see both sides managing to get on the scoresheet. We also think this is a little overpriced and our value pick for this clash is for both teams to score. We do, however, think that the defending champions can pick up all three points here, possibly via a 2-1 scoreline.
