Lille OSC v FC Metz predictions for this Ligue 1 match. Lille suffered a second-half collapse in midweek as they were beaten by Valencia in the Champions League but can they channel that frustration into this match against Metz? Read on for our free betting tips and match preview.

Reason For Lille vs Metz Predictions

Lille went in at half-time 1-0 up on Tuesday as they faced Spanish giants Valencia but an incredible second-half capitulation saw les Dogues concede four goals without reply. It hasn’t been the best return to Europe for Lille as they have already failed to reach the group stage despite there being two games left. They have been better in the league though where they currently sit 5th, however the cramped setup of the teams at the moment means that just the one win could propel them into a silver medal place.

Lille have won just one of their last five league games though and have had their fair number of poor results in recent weeks such as their draw with Nîmes (2-2) and defeat to Toulouse (1-2). Lille’s real problem has been their back-line as Christophe Galtier has experimented with a number of defensive setups but ultimately failed to find the right formula. They have kept just the one clean sheet in their last eight matches in all competitions which is quite the fall from grace considering this team conceded the least goals in the league last season. Lille’s home form has been somewhat of a saving grace for them recently though as they are unbeaten in their last six games at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy, winning five of them.

Metz have quite the challenge on their hands here as they travel to the home of last year’s runners-up. Metz currently sit second from bottom in Ligue 1 and have won just one of their last six matches and this lack of confidence really showed in their most recent game as they threw away their two goal lead to eventually draw with Montpellier at home (2-2). They have looked extremely weak mentally in recent weeks with them only picking up one point from the six matches that they’ve been trailing at half-time in.

Metz have done okay in attack this season with eleven goals scored in their twelve league games but eight of them have come via Habib Diallo meaning that whenever the Senegalese striker isn’t on form the whole team suffers. He hasn’t been helped by his defence either as Metz have conceded 18 goals so far, the drawn third worst tally in Ligue 1. Metz have been pretty awful on the road with just one win in their last six away days meaning that they’ve picked up just four of a possible 18 points on the road this campaign.

With Lille so good at home and Metz awful on the road we’re backing the hosts to get the three points here. Metz have also had a knack of trailing at half-time with it happening seven times in the league already. Lille have scored in seven of their last eight home games and have been winning at half-time in five of them therefore we’re also going to back Lille with a half-time/full-time bet with them ultimately winning 3-1.
