Lincoln City vs Rotherham Predictions
- No League 1 team has scored more away goals than Rotherham during the current campaign.
- Only Ipswich have claimed more travelling points than Rotherham in League 1 this season.
- Only Ipswich have registered more shots on target than Rotherham away from home this term.
Imps slipping
When they managed to register back-to-back wins (and go three games unbeaten) in January, Lincoln appeared to have turned a corner, though Michael Appleton’s men have not been able to sustain their forward momentum. Since beating Blackpool at this venue three weeks ago, the Imps have lost three on the bounce.
After seemingly solving their forward issues, Lincoln have gone back to struggling offensively, scoring just two goals in their last 360 minutes of League 1 football. Recent lacklustre attacking efforts against the likes of Portsmouth and Ipswich do not bode well ahead of a game against a Rotherham side that isn’t struggling to get the job done.
Millers march on
Around the turn of the year, Rotherham looked as though they’d become a side capable of establishing themselves as play-off contenders, though Paul Warne’s men weren’t content with that. In recent weeks, the Millers have taken it up a notch, so much so that they’re now top of the pile and have emerged as serious title contenders.
In general, Rotherham have been strong away from home this term. They’ve picked up the second-most travelling points in the division, while they’re also the joint-top away-day scorers. Warne’s men were beaten when they last ventured away from the New York Stadium, but we shouldn’t read too much into that as they were only narrowly touched off by a very good Peterborough side. Recent away wins against the likes of Oxford and Shrewsbury bode well ahead of Friday’s trip to Sincil Bank.
Hosts to come up short
Lincoln have done reasonably well at Sincil Bank this term, but their recent efforts have been disappointing. Their lack of offensive power is particularly worrying ahead of this clash. Punters can profit by siding with the visitors to come out on top. While the Imps have scored just two goals in their last four, Rotherham have banged in a pleasing eight, which is impressive given that they’ve face two top-four sides during that time. The visitors also have a decent away record against bottom-half teams, winning four out of six. Lincoln’s recent offensive struggles do not bode well given that Rotherham are the second-best team in the league when it comes to shots on target way and the third best in terms of touches in the opposition box. We also know that they have no problem finding the net, which is not something that can be said for the hosts right now.
