Liverpool -1

Reason for tip

Liverpool have won five of their last six Premier League games by more than a single goal and four of their last six meetings with Burnley have also seen a comfortable win for the Reds.

Liverpool vs Burnley Predictions

  • Liverpool have won five of their last six Premier League games by more than a single goal.
  • Burnley have lost eight of their last ten league matches.
  • Liverpool have won 3-0 in two of their last four meetings with Burnley.

Reds set for Anfield return

Liverpool kicked their Premier League campaign off in emphatic if unsurprising fashion as they beat the newly promoted Norwich at Carrow Road, but on Saturday they return to a packed Anfield for the first time this season and another comfortable win is expected.

The Reds may not have made many waves in the transfer market but, to coin an old cliché, having Virgil van Dijk back is like signing a new player in itself and even without the Dutch centre back Jurgen Klopp’s side ended last season in fine form, winning their last five matches.

Clarets in for a tough season

One of these was a 3-0 win at Turf Moor and there’s plenty to suggest a similar outcome could be on the cards at Anfield. Burnley went ahead in the second minute against Brighton last weekend but they couldn’t hold on to their lead, conceding two in the space of five second-half minutes to lose the game.

Sean Dyche’s team have now lost eight of their last ten Premier League matches, including each of the last four, and once again the long-serving manager hasn’t been backed in the transfer market. This already thin squad certainly looks like it could be in a fight for survival this term.

Comfortable win expected for in-form Liverpool

I can’t see anything to suggest an upset might be on the cards in front of the home crowd and I’m fully expecting the Anfield faithful to head home in high spirits on Saturday.

Liverpool are unbeaten in their last 11 league games and have scored 16 goals in their last six, while Burnley have lost eight of their last ten and shipped 20 goals in the process. With Liverpool winning five of their last six by at least two goals and doing the same in four of their last six meetings with the Clarets, backing Liverpool -1 handicap looks a good shout.

I’m also opting for a repeat of last weekend’s 3-0 scoreline, especially since Liverpool have beaten Burnley by that scoreline in two of their last four clashes.
