Liverpool to Win @ 5/2

We use stars to rate our confidence in our tips, with 3 being most confident to 1 being the least.
Liverpool 2-1 @ 11/1

Reason For Liverpool vs Everton Predictions

  • Liverpool have won 13 of their 15 competitive home games this season, losing none.
  • Everton haven’t won any of the last 23 Merseyside derbies at Anfield.
  • Liverpool have conceded in 12 of their 15 home matches in all competitions this season.
  • Everton have scored in each of their last seven competitive away fixtures.

Injury problems worsen at Anfield

Liverpool’s rather routine 2-0 win over Sheffield United on Thursday saw them surpass a year unbeaten in the Premier League, but Sunday sees the champions elect dip their toes in yet another competition as they host Merseyside rivals Everton in the FA Cup Third Round.

While the results keep flowing for the hosts, not everything is running smoothly for Jurgen Klopp. Naby Keita was added to a growing injury list on Thursday, and after a frantic festive period it’s probable we’ll see some big names missing out on Sunday.

Even so, Liverpool have some incredibly talented youngsters bolstering their ranks and the fact they have won 13 of their 15 competitive home games this season will have them coming into this tie high on confidence.

Toffees’ confidence renewed under Ancelotti

Everton’s season hasn’t quite gone to plan so far, but things are finally looking up for the Toffees after patience eventually ran out with Marco Silva. The visitors have looked a rejuvenated outfit since the Portuguese manager left, and Carlo Ancelotti’s appointment is a huge coup for the Goodison Park hierarchy.

Their renewed form didn’t stop them losing 2-1 at the Etihad on New Year’s Day, though, and their away record this season doesn’t bode overly well for this clash. Everton have lost seven of their 13 trips away, including 64% of their away days against top flight opposition.

Torrid run at Anfield to continue for Everton

Of course, you can’t analyse this fixture without considering Liverpool’s overwhelming dominance in recent Merseyside derbies. They are unbeaten in 23 home meetings with Everton in all competitions and have won five of their last seven derbies at Anfield.

Even with a weakened squad, we can see Liverpool progressing on Sunday, so we’re backing a home win at excellent-looking odds. Liverpool will have to make do with a rather makeshift back line, however, and the fact they have conceded in 12 of their 15 competitive home games this season will come as good news to an Everton side that have scored in each of their last seven away games.

The hosts have averaged 2.73 goals per home game this season, but with a weakened squad and Everton conceding 1.76 goals per away game, we think a 2-1 correct score prediction is the best option.
