Liverpool vs Newcastle Predictions

What wonders that a bit of confidence can bring about. Liverpool are in excellent form at the moment after suffering a bit of a lull a few weeks ago. They had gone four games without a win, ending with a 1-1 draw in Dortmund in the Europa League. However, a 4-1 thrashing of Stoke set the ball rolling earlier this month, and they followed it up with a famous European comeback as they came from the brinks of elimination to beat Borussia Dortmund 4-3 in the Europa League.

This sent them through to a semi-final tie with Villareal, and they followed that incredible evening with a comfortable win at Bournemouth and, most recently, a 4-0 hammering of arch rivals Everton in midweek. There’s a reason Jurgen Klopp can’t stop smiling, and that’s because his team are looking better than they have in years at the moment.

Their tie with Villareal begins on Thursday, so they will be hoping to keep their winning streak going on Saturday to set them up for the first leg in Spain. Not to mention the fact that their recent run has sent them up to 7th in the table, and with a game in hand on most of the teams above them there is a very remote possibility that they could challenge for the top four.

Newcastle managed to fight to a draw at home to Manchester City on Tuesday evening to boost their chances of Premier League survival. This followed on from their 3-0 win against Swansea at the weekend and takes them just two points from safety.

But Newcastle have a shocking record on the road this season. They have lost ten competitive games on the bounce away from home and conceded 21 goals in the process. It’s going to be a big ask of them to get something from this game.

Newcastle’s defensive vulnerabilities have resulted in a fair few high scoring games. Five of their last seven away games have seen at least three goals, with all of those five games seeing Newcastle themselves ship at least three goals. Liverpool have scored 14 goals in their last four matches too, so it could be a goalfest for the in form Liverpool attack on Saturday.

This makes odds of 6/5 for a Liverpool Win and Over 2.5 Goals look very attractive, and I’m backing that along with a 3-1 correct score prediction at 11/1.
