Liverpool vs Sunderland Predictions
Liverpool’s winning streak was halted last weekend as a defiant Southampton held them to a goalless draw at St Mary’s. This ended a four match winning streak, but it extended their unbeaten streak to an impressive 13 matches in all competitions.
Ten of these 13 games have been victories, and they have scored at least two goals in each of these ten victories. This has generally been out of necessity, because defensively they haven’t exactly been concrete. They have conceded in nine of their last 13 outings, with two of their four clean sheets coming against lower league opposition in the League Cup.
This does make for some very entertaining football, and the other end of the pitch is where their talents lie. Sadio Mane, Phillipe Coutinho, and Roberto Firmino have 16 Premier League goals between them, and considering five of Mane’s came at Anfield, I think he’s the best bet for our anytime goalscorer predictions at 5/6.
Sunderland may not have three standout attackers, but they do have one at least. Jermain Defoe bagged the first goal in Sunderland’s 3-0 win over Hull last weekend to make it seven league goals for the season. Three of these have come away from home as well, so considering Liverpool’s poor defence I’d say backing him to score at 11/4 is a good option.
That 3-0 win over Hull last weekend made it two wins on the bounce for Sunderland after they went ten games without a win at the start of the season. This has been enough to lift them off the bottom of the table, and a win on Saturday could lift them out of the drop zone.
To be fair, it’s very unlikely that Sunderland can make it three on the bounce here. Liverpool have won five of their six home games this season, scoring a total of 19 goals and conceding five at the other end. The hosts are massive favourites for a reason here, but I do think Sunderland’s renewed attack can bag a confidence boosting goal. Liverpool have conceded in five of their six home games and Sunderland have scored in ten of their 15 matches in all competitions. This makes odds of 8/5 for Liverpool to Win and Both Teams to Score look a very promising option, and I’m going for that along with a 3-1 correct score predictions at 11/1.
