Lorient vs Guingamp Predictions

Lorient returned to action in excellent form following the French winter break. They faced Ligue 1 leaders Nice in the Coupe de France, and despite going a goal behind in the first half, they managed to score a quickfire double to win the game 2-1 and send them through in the cup.

This makes it three wins, two draws, and two defeats in their last seven games in all competitions, which is a welcome break in form considering they had lost six of their previous seven prior to that.

However, that poor form has taken it’s toll on their position in Ligue 1. They sit rock bottom of the table with 15 points from their 19 games so far, but they are only four points off safety and have shown remarkable improvements over the past couple of months.

Guingamp also managed to progress in the Coupe de France last weekend, but a midweek Coupe de la Ligue 1 at Bordeaux saw them exit the competition after a 3-2 defeat. This ends their four match unbeaten streak in all competitions, but they have still managed to win three of their last seven in all competitions.

The visitors’ form earlier in the season was impressive as well, meaning they sit in a very promising 5th position with a 30 point tally from their opening 19 games. They are currently just four points adrift of the top four.

Away from home victories have been more difficult to come by though. They have won just one of their last 11 away days in normal time, drawing five and losing five. All of these five draws came in their last seven matches as well.

Lorient have won five of their last eight at home as well, so this could be a very tight match. One thing we can count on is goals though. Lorient have scored in seven of their last eight at home and conceded in six of them. Guingamp have scored in seven of their last eight on the road as well, but haven’t kept a clean sheet away from home in their last 11 games.

This makes odds of 3/4 for Both Teams to Score look a promising bet, so I’m backing that along with 2-2 correct score predictions at 12/1. I also fancy Jimmy Briand to add to his six Ligue 1 goals for Guingamp, so I’m backing him to score anytime at 12/5 for my goalscorer predictions.
