      Lorient vs Montpellier Predictions

Lorient have lost three of their last four games, but they won the one where they clearly needed to pick up the three points, a home match against Stade Reims. Saturday’s clash with third from bottom Montpellier could probably be given a similar classification. They were at least feisty in a 3-1 midweek loss against PSG, but games against the defending champions have been a write-off for most teams this season.

With five losses in their last six games, Montpellier are in worse form than Lorient. They’ve slumped to third from bottom, though the good news is that they are closer to escaping the relegation zone than they are to slipping deeper into it.

      Head-to-Head

These two teams have already met twice this season. Montpellier won the Ligue 1 game, at home, 2-1, while Lorient picked up a 3-2 victory when the clubs met in the Coupe de la Ligue. This fixture was a stalemate last season finishing up as a 0-0 draw.

      Team News

Midfielder Ibrahim Ndong is sidelined for Lorient, but he’s the only major absentee from the squad, besides long-term issue Wesley Lautoa.

Key parts of Montpellier’s midfield have been out since October and there’s no sign of a return for Joris Marveaux or Paul-Bastien Lasne yet. No fresh injury concerns to report for this side.

      Reason for Betting Tip

Montpellier’s run of form is far more concerning than Lorient’s. The home side has generally done well in this match-up in recent history, while the odds on a Lorient win are at a terrific 7/5 price. The more athletic, more potent attacking side and better team should pick up the three points here.
