Reason for tip

Ludogorets vs Roma Predictions

  • Roma have only seen over 3.5 goals scored in one of their last 12 matches.
  • The Giallorossi have won five of their last seven games to nil.
  • Ludogorets failed to score in four of their six Europa League group-stage matches last season.
  • Excluding qualifiers, the hosts are winless in their last 16 European games, losing 14.

Roma look to bounce back

Just as Jose Mourinho’s Roma looked ready to emerge as genuine Serie A contenders after a strong start to the season, they capitulated to a 4-0 loss at Udinese last time out. Having won the Europa Conference League last term, the Giallorossi are acutely aware of the benefits of taking continental competitions seriously, and they will be confident of bouncing back against Ludogorets.

Roma had not even conceded from open play in Serie A ahead of that loss to the Zebrette, and have won five of their last seven matches to nil. Mourinho has built a strong defensive unit in Rome, with just one of their last 12 matches containing more than three goals. With the top of Serie A appearing extremely competitive this term, meanwhile, Roma should be expected to target Europa League success as a potential route into the Champions League.

Thursday’s opponents Ludogorets have made a scintillating start to their domestic season in Bulgaria, winning six of their first seven games and plundering 25 goals. In continental competition, however, they have found things much more difficult – excluding preliminary rounds, Ludogorets have gone without a win in 16 European ties, losing 14 of those, and they failed to score in four of their six Europa League group-stage matches last season.

Solid Giallorossi set for success

Given their excellent defensive record and their opponents’ shortcomings in Europe, backing Roma to win a match containing under 3.5 goals appears a great way of ensuring value while keeping several scorelines in play.

Meanwhile, a 2-0 success for the visitors could represent a decent correct score prediction.
