We use stars to rate our confidence in our tips, with 3 being most confident to 1 being the least.
Draw 1-1 @ 11/2

Reason For Luton vs Barnsley Predictions

  • Luton have drawn four of their last six league games, three of which ended 1-1
  • Barnsley have won only four of their 20 away league games, collecting just 15 of their 41 points on their travels
  • Both teams have scored in only one of Barnsley’s last seven away games

Luton set for another share of the spoils

Luton had been making good strides since re-appointing manager Nathan Jones but their slim survival hopes were dealt a blow as they were thumped 5-0 at home to Reading on Saturday.

The Hatters had lost only one of their nine games prior to Saturday’s dismantling, a run which included a 2-1 home victory over Brentford and a 1-1 draw at league leaders Leeds.

If Luton can recover from that beating and cope with the quick turnaround, they may fancy their chances of accounting for a travel-sick Barnsley.

However, there could be some value in backing the draw. Only one point separates the Championship’s bottom two clubs and although both need maximum points, it’s debatable whether any of them are good enough to seize the opportunity.

Luton have lost only four of their last 12 league games at Kenilworth Road but they have shared the spoils in four of their last seven encounters and we predict a draw as the most likely outcome.

Travel-sick Tykes have a point to prove

Just like Luton, Barnsley come into this fixture on the back of a heavy defeat after losing 4-0 at Stoke on Saturday and they have plenty to prove given their worrying away form.

Barnsley have won only four of their 20 away league games, collecting just 15 of their 41 points on their travels and they have scored just three times in their last six outings.

That lack of attacking edge could cost them dearly in their battle to avoid the drop. Only Middlesbrough have scored less than their 45-goal total this season and it’s difficult to see them outscoring hosts Luton.

With only three defeats in their last nine games, however, and clean sheets in three of their last four games against QPR, Millwall and Blackburn, the Tykes are evidently well-organised under Austrian manager Gerhard Struber and they have what it takes to avoid defeat.

Low-scoring draw looks the way to go

The Hatters have drawn four of their last six league games, three of which have ended 1-1, and our prediction is a repeat result.

Barnsley have scored two or more in only one of their last eight matches, while Luton have scored exactly once in three of their last five at home.

Given what is at stake for both sides, it is likely this clash will be decided by a small margin and we predict this to be tight.

Both teams have scored in only one of Barnsley’s last seven away games but a goal either way will force the other team to go all-out attack.
