Portsmouth to Win

Reason for tip

Luton are in desperate trouble and look difficult to support at the prices against a Portsmouth team who can continue to improve their away record on their Kenilworth Road visit

Portsmouth 2-0

Reason for tip

The lack of home goals is a grave concern for the Hatters, so Pompey can leave Bedfordshire with a 2-0 win, as they did recently when they went to Oxford

Luton vs Portsmouth Predictions

  • Luton have not won any of their last 12 Championship matches
  • The Hatters have scored just once in their last three league games
  • Portsmouth have come out on top in each of their last three second-tier encounters

A hatful of problems for toothless Luton

This is turning into a disastrous season for Luton as their hopes of challenging for an immediate Premier League return are in tatters and they are staring a successive relegation in the face.

A 2-0 loss to arch-rivals Watford was the latest disappointment to hit them last weekend and it is difficult to have much faith in them turning their situation around when they entertain Portsmouth on Saturday.

The Hatters claimed a 1-1 draw against fellow strugglers Plymouth in their last home game, but they had failed to net in their previous four at Kenilworth Road and there are even doubts that they will be able to pull it round against the league’s second-leakiest defence this weekend.

Pompey look to have turned the corner

Portsmouth endured a miserable start to the season when they won just one of their opening 14 games following promotion and they looked destined to be sat where Luton find themselves, right at the bottom of the table.

However, they have recovered well and John Mousinho’s side have opened a nine-point gap between themselves and the bottom three, so there is a strong chance they will still be in the second tier next season.

Strong results at Fratton Park have spearheaded their push for safety, but they claimed a valuable 2-0 win at Oxford in their last away game so they can build on that when they take on the Hatters.

They are on the up and represent strong value in Saturday’s game while correct-score punters can be tempted by a repeat of the 2-0 success they claimed at the Kassam Stadium a fortnight ago.
