      Luxembourg vs Slovakia Predictions

With Spain having already won the group, it is between Slovakia and Ukraine for 2nd place but the Slovaks are in pole position. They only need to equal Ukraine’s result against the defending European Champions on Monday to secure progress and even if they fail to do that, they still could end up as the best of the 3rd place sides which would also mean automatic qualification.

Against one of the minnows of European football they will be determined to not leave anything to chance though but it will be anything but an easy game. After making a stunning start to qualifying last year, Slovakia haven’t scored a single goal in any of their 3 matches this season and were surprisingly beaten 1-0 at home by Belarus last time out.

Even after the visitors were reduced to 10 men in the 65th minute, they couldn’t find a breakthrough and with problems in the final third evident, they may have a hard time breaking down a stubborn Luxembourg outfit.

The hosts have taken 4 points from their 4 home games so far and look like they won’t finish bottom of the group because of it which is certainly an achievement for them. Indeed they have avoided defeat in 8 of their last 14 home international matches, a clear sign that they are an improving side and they’ve beaten the likes of Lithuania, Northern Ireland and last time out Macedonia at home over the past couple of years.

Slovakia are a bit better than those sides but aren’t playing well enough to convince you that they’ll run away with this so backing Luxembourg + 2 Goal Handicap at 5/6 looks like a solid bet here.

It’s not likely to be a classic given these sides have scored just 1 goal between them in a total of 6 matches this season. Slovakia should have enough quality to just edge it and once in front they’ll be content to play out a dull game and secure qualification.

Therfore consider backing a 1-0 away win at odds of 4/1.
