Lyon to Win

Reason for tip

Lyon have won their last three games in all competitions and appear to be building similar momentum to the back half of last season when they went on an incredible run. They should overcome a depleted Nantes side whose former captain has been dropped after a row with the coach.

Lyon 2-1

Reason for tip

Nantes conceded twice at home to struggling Saint-Etienne last weekend and look unlikely to stop Lyon from scoring multiple goals at home. Les Gones are averaging two goals per home game this term, but have shipped too many goals. That should encourage a Nantes side that have scored in all three of their away games to at least get on the scoresheet in a 2-1 defeat.

Lyon vs Nantes Predictions

  • Lyon have won their last three games in all competitions
  • Nantes have failed to win any of their last three games
  • Nantes are without several players through various reasons

Lyon look likely to win again

Lyon should be able to get the better of a depleted Nantes side when these two former French giants meet at Groupama Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Les Gones are enjoying another purple patch under Pierre Sage, who led them from bottom of the table in December to sixth place at the end of the season.

That impressive finish earned them a pot in the Europa League and back-to-back wins against Olympiakos and Rangers have put them near the head of the standings after two rounds. Alexandre Lacazette was back among the goals on Thursday night as Sage’s men ran out 4-1 winners at Ibrox.

Key man dropped after boss row

Lyon’s domestic form has been mixed so far this term, but after a 0-0 raw at Lens and a 3-2 home defeat to 10-man Marseille, there were signs of improvement against Toulouse last week.

Nantes, meanwhile, have gone three games without a win in Ligue 1 and will be without some key players this week. Loan signing Johann Lepenant, who has scored two and assisted one of the Canaries’ last three goals, is unable to face his parent club while full-back Nicolas Cozza is suspended.

Former captain Jean-Charles Castelletto has been dropped to the reserves after a row with the coach after conceding penalties in back-to-back games while winger Herba Guirassy and defender Fabien Centonze are injured. Nantes may attempt to shut up shop in the hope of gaining a point, but Lyon should be able to claim a win somehow.
