Maastricht vs Roda JC Predictions

Roda JC secured back to back Eerste Divisie wins for the first time since August with a resounding 3-0 success over strugglers Helmond Sport last week, and Robert Molenaar’s side now sit 7th in the table and just five points behind the Play-off places. Their consecutive victories also mean they share the lead with a clutch of teams in the Period 2 standings, so there’s clearly plenty at stake for the Kerkrade outfit this Sunday morning as they take on MVV at De Geusselt.

Following a workmanlike 1-2 victory at Jong Utrecht on match day 12, Roda were expected to beat Helmond Sport at Parkstad Limburg Stadion last week, and they did so in style as goals from Mitchel Paulissen, Gyliano van Velzen and Mario Engels sealed a 3-0 win.

After enduring a winless October, Robert Molenaar’s men are now up to 7th and back in the hunt for the Play-off places, whilst they also share the lead with six other teams in the Period 2 standings two games in.

Roda will feel they can get back into the top five in the coming weeks with 6th placed Oss their toughest opponents on paper in the lead up to Christmas, and they rate as marginal favourites to land the points at De Geusselt this weekend against an MVV side who have won just once in their last six outings.

Ron Elsen’s charges have been mightily disappointing this season and the majority of their issues have arisen in Maastricht where they’ve lost four of their six home games, conceding 12 goals in the process.

MVV had maintained an unbeaten streak of six on the road until last weekend which kept them close to the top half of the table, but their home defensive problems surfaced at Kras Stadion where they were put to the sword by a resurgent Volendam side.

Whilst the contest finished 3-2, MVV were blown away in the first hour by Palingboeren and only picked up some pieces late on after going 3-0 down.

It will have been hugely concerning for Elsen to watch his team surrender their unbeaten away run so easily, and for how they were taken apart having previously conceded just three goals on their travels in 2018/19.

There will be big pressure on MVV to respond at De Geusselt on Sunday, but they really look up against it with Roda on the up and possessing one of the best away records in the league this term.

Molenaar’s side have won four of their seven away matches and are a great price to condemn MVV to their fifth home defeat of the season. MVV shouldn’t be favourites in the betting based on their woeful home form alone, but Roda simply appear to be a more accomplished team and can land the spoils here 0-2.
