Magdeburg vs Fortuna Dusseldorf Predictions
- Magdeburg cruised to the 3.Liga title last season and have strengthened during the summer.
- Fortuna Dusseldorf failed to win seven of their last eight competitive away games.
- Visiting manager Daniel Thioune lost both of his personal encounters with Magdeburg.
A positive start for promoted Magdeburg
Gaining promotion to the second tier was never in doubt for Magdeburg as they cruised to the 3.Liga title with just six defeats all season in 2021/22 (W24, D6) and that healthy 14 point cushion they had over the rest of the league was consolidated by their imperious home record (W13, D4, L1).
Home points are going to be crucial to Magdeburg’s survival bid this season and they have brought in no fewer than nine new additions at the time of writing to strengthen their side for the new campaign.
Perhaps the most notable signing is that of Mohammed El Hankouri on a free transfer, the Dutch winger has an Eredivisie title with Feyenoord and arrives from top-flight side Groningen, such is the experience they will need to avoid the drop.
A difficult start away from home
While Dusseldorf are expected to do well this season, their return of just one win across the final seven away rounds last season hardly inspires confidence of a good start to the campaign.
Only three sides played out more stalemates than Dusseldorf in the 2.Bundesliga last season and such results were recorded in four of their last six away. As such, we are backing the home win but in the ‘draw no bet’ market as to provide some insurance should that likely outcome click.
As for the correct score, a small stakes selection on a narrow 2-1 Magdeburg win is what we stick with in this encounter.
