Malaga vs Atletico Madrid Betting Tips

Diego Simeone’s men have fully taken advantage of blunders from Real Madrid and Barcelona in recent week and have cemented themselves as genuine title contenders. They weren’t at their best last time out at home to Athletic but still found some way to get the 3 points with Antoine Griezmann netting a brilliant winner.

Their victory over Reus in the Copa del Rey in midweek made it 9 wins on the trot in all competitions and they have built up some real momentum. You have to go back to September for their last defeat against Benfica in the Champions League and Atleti have won 12 and lost 3 since then.

Malaga have improved a bit in the league in recent weeks and finally scored and won away from home last weekend when they were 2-1 victors at Rayo Vallecano. That result lifted them out of the relegation zone but only on goal difference. They were though beaten 1-0 at home by Segunda Division Mirandes in midweek to exit that competition.

This game is a battle between the league’s best defence and the league’s worst attack and it’s hard to see a Malaga side that has scored just 9 goals in 15 matches so far causing Atleti’s immense defence many problems. Atleti haven’t been sensational going forward but with players like Griezmann they are always likely to nick a goal and that could be all they need to win this. For that reason Atleti look good to make it 10 wins in a row here at 3/4.

It’s hard to see there being many goals here though. Although they rarely score, Malaga do have the joint 3rd best defence in the league so a 1-0 away win looks a good shout at 5/1.
