Malaga vs Celta Vigo Betting Tips

Celta Vigo slipped out of the top four in midweek when they were beaten 1-0 at home by Athletic Bilbao. They’d won 5 of their previous 6 matches so would have been disappointed to not carry on their momentum from the pre-Christmas matches by dropping points against a side that is likely to be competing with them for the European places.

They might also count themselves unfortunate to be heading to Malaga at this point given they are looking a dramatically improved side on what we saw from them in the early parts of the season. They were in the bottom 3 at the start of December but a 0-0 draw in Bilbao followed by 3 consecutive league wins against Rayo Vallecano, Atletico Madrid and in midweek Levante have seen them rise to 11th place and well clear of danger.

Malaga could even move into the top half with a win here which would be a remarkable turnaround and their impressive showings against the likes of Athletic and Atleti have shown they are capable of at the very least holding their own against the stronger sides.

They have the 2nd best defensive record in the division and against a Celta Vigo side that blows hot and cold they may really fancy this. Malaga’s recent improvement is reflected in the odds and they are favourites for the game but at 7/5 there is still the potential for big returns.

There are rarely many goals in games involving Malaga and a telling statistic here is that 12 of their 17 league matches so far this term have finished either 0-0 or 1-0. They’ve won their last two 1-0 and are good value to do likewise here at 11/2.
