Malta vs Kosovo Predictions
Will group D3 leaders Kosovo strengthen their position with a victory in this trip to Malta? The away side have been excellent in this group so far, with their unbeaten run promising a lot for their future. They could start their Nations League campaign in the third tier in 2020, while there’s still a chance for them to play at a first major tournament in two years’ time. Will they boost their hopes of making the Euros by claiming three points in their final away match of this campaign?
Malta haven’t found any kind of footing in this group, and they sit bottom of the pile. Given that they’re in the basement tier of the Nations League, that’s quite damning. This competition was supposed to allow smaller sides to pick up results and start at an equal footing, yet Malta are massive outsiders for this clash. They’ve got an awful run of form behind them, and they don’t seem likely to pick up a win ahead of the start of the Euro 2020 qualifiers in March. Having struggled against the likes of Azerbaijan and the Faroe Islands, the qualifiers are likely to be a tall order.
The visitors have thrived against teams who are at their own level. They have only played 14 competitive internationals, but their last four have been a huge success. They ended World Cup qualification with a single point, but the last year has seen a huge upturn in fortunes for Kosovo. They’re unbeaten since their last qualifier, winning six of the eight games they’ve played since. the visitors have looked much better going forward, and they’ve hit six goals in their last three Nations League games.
The visitors will want more in this one, as they’re going to have to kick off on the front-foot. They are two points clear at the top of the group, but Azerbaijan are looking to close in. The pair meet in the final match, so Kosovo will want to hang on to that two point gap, or potentially extend it. We see them starting off with an attacking edge, especially after winning 3-1 at home in the reverse fixture last month.
However, Malta have been getting goals in the Nations League so far. They come into this one having seen both teams score in all four of their matches in the new competition. After scoring at Kosovo last time out, we’re tipping them to find the net here. We’re going with both teams to score, while we see the visitors run of back to back Nations League draws on the road continuing.
