Backlines are less than dependable

Malta had a miserable qualifying campaign as they finished rock bottom and conceded a colossal 30 goals across their ten matches. But since the qualifiers came to an end, they have begun to hit the back of the net with more frequency and have managed to score in all of their last six games. However, their defence still shows vulnerabilities and they have failed to keep a clean sheet in five of their last seven games, only successfully doing so in two fixtures against San Marino.

The Republic of Ireland fared a little better but were thrown into a group consisting of Portugal and Serbia. They still managed to secure two victories and conceded just eight goals in that time but their defensive stability has regressed lately having conceded in six of their last seven outings.

Neither of these two outfits have shown much in the defensive department and we really like the look of both teams finding a way to get on the scoresheet in this encounter.
