Manchester City vs Club Brugge Predictions

  • City have won 20 of their 25 home Champions League games under Guardiola
  • Club Brugge have lost 11 of their last 13 trips to England in European competition
  • Brugge have seen BTTS land in all three group games
  • The visitors have scored in nine of their last 11 Champions League matches

City out to bounce back

Man City haven’t enjoyed the best week, with Pep Guardiola’s side surrendering their hold on the Carabao Cup before a 2-0 home defeat to Crystal Palace. The Eagles cut through City at the weekend and that should worry them ahead of this visit from Club Brugge.

City are coasting towards a top-two finish in this group but they face a battle with PSG for top spot, having lost in Paris last month. City need to step up ahead of the reverse meeting with the French giants, while they need to wrap up a midweek win to keep the pace.

Difficult night for Brugge

City may be having a tough week, but this is still a monumental task for Brugge. City have won six of their seven games against Belgian opponents in European competition, winning 5-1 in the away meeting last month.

Brugge have never won away from home against an English side in European competition, losing 11 of 13 meetings. That’s unlikely to change here, considering that pep Guardiola has won 20 of 25 home Champions League games at City.

Back goals at the Etihad

City’s heavy win in the last meeting suggest the visitors are in trouble, but Brugge still found the net in that one. In fact, the Belgian side have scored in all three group games so far. They’ve found the net all but two of their last 11 matches in this competition, so the visitors clearly pack a threat.

Having seen City fall victim to Palace’s pressing and Wilfried Zaha’s pace at the weekend, I’ve got little confidence in their backline holding out. Brugge are on a good scoring run so I’m backing them to score here. However, City impressive European record points to them claiming a win. City and BTTS is my first selection, while I’m going for a 3-1 City win given they’ve scored 21 goals across their previous seven games against Belgian opponents.
