      Manchester City vs Sevilla Predictions

The struggles of City in Europe are a bit of a mystery given some of the blistering performances they put in in the Premier League. They have won their last two matches 6-1 and 5-1 against Newcastle and Bournemouth yet there will still be an air of tension around Eastlands when the teams step out onto the pitch this week.

Some of their performances at home in Europe have been really poor and they’ve lost 4 of their last 6 Champions League home games, including a 2-1 defeat to Juventus in the opening game of this year’s group phase. They bounced back well and importantly with a 2-1 win of their own at Borussia Mönchengladbach last time out to move level on points with 2nd place Sevilla.

Even before the action started, there looked every chance that City would be fighting it out with Sevilla for 2nd in this group and that is increasingly how it is looking. Back-to-back meetings between the sides will go a long way to determining how this group is likely to end up.

Fortunately for City, Sevilla haven’t quite been as impressive as they were last season when they romped to a 2nd successive Europa League triumph. There has been the odd positive showing such as the surprise 2-1 win over Barcelona and a 3-0 win over Gladbach in their first group game.

However they have returned just 9 points from their opening 8 league matches and are yet to win away from home in 6 attempts this season and were fairly comfortably disposed of by Juventus in Turin last time out.

With the likes of Raheem Sterling, who bagged a hat-trick at the weekend and Kevin De Bruyne finding their feet quicker than might have been expected, they should be able to compensate for the loss of the injured Sergio Aguero here. Meanwhile Vincent Kompany, who was rested at the weekend is likely to come back into the side here to sure up the defence.

Sevilla are a naturally attacking side and won’t come here just to sit back and hope for a point so we should see an open game. City should have too much quality for them though and they look good value at 13/10 to win the game and there to be 3 or more goals in it.

They don’t tend to do things the easy way in Europe though so a comfortable night for the Premier League high-flyers seems unlikely. Given they haven’t kept a clean sheet in any of their last 7 games, an away goal could be on the cards and if you’re looking for a correct score bet consider backing it to finish 2-1 to the hosts at 7/1.
