Tip Reasoning
Manchester City’s race for the Premier League title effectively came to an end last weekend as they suffered an humiliating 4-0 defeat to Everton. This is the worst defeat of Pep Guardiola’s club career and leaves them a full ten points adrift of the Premier League leaders Chelsea.
Not only that but they are also now out of the top four, two points adrift of Arsenal and only two ahead of the in form Manchester United below them. If they’re not careful this could turn into a disastrous season for Manchester City.
The defeat last weekend made it four defeats and four wins for The Citizens in their last eight games in the Premier League, and at home they have won three, drawn three, and lost one of their last seven games. The singular defeat came to Chelsea, whilst Everton, Southampton, and Middlesbrough all held them at The Etihad.
To make things even more ominous for Guardiola and company, it was Tottenham who ended Manchester City’s perfect start to the season back in October when they beat them 2-0 at White Hart Lane.
Spurs will be feeling fairly confident about this one. They hammered West Brom 4-0 last weekend, with star man Harry Kane bagging a hat-trick. This made it seven wins on the bounce in all competitions, including them ending Chelsea’s record equalling winning streak at the start of the month.
This has taken them to 2nd in the Premier League table, and whilst seven points is a big gap to make up on the runaway leaders Chelsea, it’s not completely impossible with the form Spurs are in.
For our goalscorer predictions it’s hard to look beyond Harry Kane. The English striker was in sensational form last weekend and now has 13 league goals in 16 appearances this season, so he looks the best choice to back to score anytime at 13/8 with Paddy Power, considering Manchester City have kept just one clean sheet in their last seven home league games.
Away from home it’s been a little more difficult for Spurs, but they have managed to win their last two trips away comprehensively, beating Southampton and Watford 4-1. They have only lost twice on the road all season in the Premier League too. This, coupled with Manchester City winning just three of their last seven at home, makes odds of 3/4 for a Tottenham Win or Draw Double Chance look good value. I’m going for a 2-1 win for the visitors at 12/1 as well.
