Manchester City vs Wycombe Wanderers Predictions
- Manchester City begin their quest for a fifth consecutive Carabao Cup triumph on Tuesday night.
- League One Wycombe sneaked into the third round via penalty shootout victories against Exeter and Stevenage.
- The hosts have hit at least five goals in three of their last five starts.
Holders to breeze past The Chairboys
While Gareth Ainsworth’s Wycombe are likely to dig their heels in, Manchester City should still begin their Carabao Cup campaign with a resounding victory when the sides square off at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday night.
City won the competition for a fourth straight season when beating Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 in the 2020/21 showpiece, and although Pep Guardiola will once again prioritise league and Champions League this term, it’s difficult to bet against his side making it to Wembley once more come February next year.
Such is the strength in depth of City’s squad, this competition offers Guardiola the chance to get game time into his fringe men and blood new talent, so we can definitely expect a committed effort from the eleven who turn out against The Chairboys this week.
Wycombe are a tough and admirable outfit who went down fighting from the Championship last season, and they’ve began the new campaign promisingly. Immediate promotion is a realistic aim for Ainsworth’s charges who are currently fifth in League One, but we simply can’t see them laying a glove on the Premier League champions at the Etihad.
City have already hit at least five goals on three occasions this season, so we’re backing the holders to breeze through this tie. A changed line-up for the hosts should still have enough quality and firepower to cover a three goal handicap and 5-0 is our pick in the correct score market.
