Manchester United

      Tip Reasoning

Manchester United managed to record their first comfortable victory of the season on Tuesday evening when they hosted Club Brugge in the Champions League playoff.

Man United players scored all 4 of the goals in their 3-1 first leg victory, with Memphis Depay netting his first brace as a United player in the first half after Michael Carrick put the ball in his own net just 8 minutes in. Marouane Fellaini rounded off the victory with a last minute goal.

Fellaini is one player who will miss out against Newcastle, as he is still serving a domestic suspension carried over from last season. Phil Jones is another absentee due to a blood clot in his leg.

Newcastle United have a number of squad players absent through injury, including Paul Dummett, Emanuele Riviere, Remy Cabella, and Sylvain Marveux. Darryl Janmaat will also miss out after his red card last weekend.

Newcastle looked lacklustre in all departments in their 2-0 loss to Swansea last weekend, but to be fair to them Swansea did look a classy outfit.

Unlike Manchester United, who have looked anything but classy in the opening 2 gameweeks of the Premier League.

Two 1-0 victories over Spurs and Aston Villa have gained them 6 points from their opening 2 games. However, they have only managed 2 shots on target in these games combined, which wil be a worry considering the investment they have made in their squad this summer. There will come a time when an opposition goalkeeper will save a shot.

Man United have won the 5 of the last 6 meetings between these sides, but even if they do win on Saturday I can’t see it being a repeat of their 3-1 win at Old Trafford last season.

They simply don’t seem to have any sort of penetration up top, with infrequent pieces of genius from Juan Mata forging the only opportunities. For this reason, odds of 1.725 for a Newcastle +1.5 Asian Handicap look like very good value.
