Manchester United vs Sunderland Predictions

Manchester United finally seem to be coming together after a difficult first half to the season. Their 2-0 win at West Brom last weekend was a confident performance to make it four wins on the trot in all competitions. They are now unbeaten in ten matches as well, and their recent results have pushed them to 6th in the Premier League and only four points off the top four.

At home they have a similar sort of record, winning seven and drawing four of their 11 games since their only home loss of the season to Manchester City back in September.

A key ingredient for their recent success has been the return to form of Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The Swedish striker netted twice last weekend to make it eight goals in his last seven appearances and to take his season tally to 11 in the Premier League. Backing him to score anytime at 4/7 looks the best option for our goalscorer predictions.

Sunderland are one of the perennial strugglers of the Premier League, and this season doesn’t look like it’s going to be much different. They endured their worst ever start to a Premier League campaign, and although they have improved lately they still sit in the relegation zone.

Last weekends 1-0 win over Watford has managed to lift them off the bottom of the table though, and their recent record of four wins and three defeats from their last seven games is respectable. There might be hope for David Moyes yet.

Unfortunately for him I don’t see much hope for him on his return to Old Trafford on Boxing Day. Sunderland have lost five of their last six away games and failed to score in all of these losses.

This is down to an extremely defensive setup they utilise when on the road, one that Jurgen Klopp stated was ‘The most defensive team he ever saw.” As a result of this, six of their last nine away games have seen fewer than three goals. Manchester United have been involved in low scoring games in each of their last five home Premier League games too.

With this in mind backing Under 2.5 Goals at 13/10 looks incredibly good value, so I’m going for that along with a 2-0 correct score predictions at 5/1.
