Mansfield Town vs Swindon Predictions
- Mansfield Town have won just once in their last five games and sit in 21st position.
- Swindon are still top of the league by two points, having won three of their last four matches.
- Mansfield have scored 46 goals this season but conceded 54 times, a rate of 1.54 games per match.
- Swindon scored their 60th goal of the season at the weekend as they average 1.76 goals per game.
Bitterly disappointing season continues for Mansfield
Mansfield Town were expected to be at the other end of the league this season but its been a season of struggles for The Stags as they fall well below expectations. The team have won just eight times all season, losing double that amount and, if it wasn’t for Stevenage performing so poorly this season, Mansfield would be in trouble of dropping out of the league.
Recent weeks haven’t been kind to Mansfield with a solitary win against Newport being the only thing their fans have had to shout about whilst disappointing defeats to Cheltenham and Leyton Orient have stopped the side from gaining any consistency in their hopes of ending the season on a high.
Goals haven’t really been an issue for Mansfield this season with 46 being scored by The Stags, 14 of them by Nicky Maynard, at a rate of 1.31 goals per game. Their defensive issues have been prevalent though with their net being breached 54 times, a figure that means Mansfield have been the biggest disappointment of this League Two season.
The League Two promotion race hots up this weekend
Swindon have been top of the league for much of the League Two season, seeing their talismanic striker, Eoin Doyle, continue to scored despite some issues over his loan deal earlier this season. Swindon have experienced defeat just eight times this season, keeping themselves just ahead of their rivals in the race to become League Two champions.
The team are currently on a four match unbeaten run, winning three of their last four games as they find their feet a little more. During this period they’ve beaten fellow promotion hopefuls Exeter and Northampton, which has helped their cause immensely but the League Two promotion race remains very tight with four sides separated by just four points at the top.
Swindon have found the net 60 times this season, averaging just short of two goals a game on average and 24 of those have been scored by Doyle as he leads the golden boot race by 10 goals. Defensively Swindon have been about average for their position, conceding just over a goal a game on average and if they can keep their form going then promotion looks assured for The Robins.
Teams at opposite ends of the table but points on the agenda for both
These two teams have had very differing fortunes this season with Swindon flying high and Mansfield never really getting going. This looks like it could well continue into this weekend with Swindon being favourites ahead of the game. We’re predicting Swindon will come away with all three points once again and we’re backing them on the full time market.
The game should be relatively comfortable for Swindon as they look to maintain their position at the top of the table with another win over a team threatened with a relegation battle. We think they pick up a 2-0 win in a game that allows them to take another step towards League One.
