Tip Reasoning

  • Mansfield have won 10 of their last 11 League Two contests.
  • Leyton Orient have lost four of their last six in the league.
  • Mansfield to win and BTTS has landed in seven of the club’s last ten league games.
  • Mansfield defender Stephen McLaughlin has scored four goals in his last six league games.

Stags’ run to continue against ordinary O’s

Mansfield have been outscoring their opponents on a regular basis to move up the League Two table and can consolidate their playoff position with another three points at home to Leyton Orient.

The Stags are not the finished article yet, but possess an ability to score goals from open and set-piece positions and undoubted character that sees them through tough situations. One such situation arose last weekend at Barrow when Mansfield played more than half of the match with ten men after Farrend Rawson’s red card.

But Nigel Clough’s men dug deep to win 3-1 and continue a sequence of victories in which both teams have scored. A bet on that outcome would now have landed in seven of the last ten Mansfield league games, including wins against the half of the clubs placed between ninth and 23rd in the table.

Set-piece weakness could aid visitors’ cause

Leyton Orient look like a team that might befall the same fate as the Londoners arrive on the back of a four-game winless sequence. They have failed to score in their last three league games, but won’t have faced a team as bad at defending set pieces as Mansfield during that run.

The Stags’ inability to stop even some of the least potent sides in the division from netting against them from corners and free kicks appears to be the driving force behind this current good run as Clough’s men know they have to get two goals themselves to have a chance of winning the match.

If Orient were in better form, we could see them denying the hosts all three points, but Kenny Jackett’s side have won just one of 11 on the road this term. Aside from the main selection, the best value correct score pick would appear to be a 2-1 home win as the O’s have only once conceded more than twice on the road and only once have Mansfield failed to score twice in their last seven at One Call Stadium.
