Melbourne Victory vs Adelaide United Predictions

Melbourne Victory’s 2-2 draw away to cross-city rivals Melbourne City at the weekend was a good result considering the form of their opponents, but they really could have done with a win to narrow the gap between them and the top of the table.

The current Hyundai A-League champions sit down in a fairly disappointing 5th position in the table, and although they are only six points off the top spot they still need to outperform all the teams lying between them and a successful defence of their title.

They haven’t been outperforming any of them lately though. Melbourne Victory come into this match having not won any of their last three and having only won three of their last 12 league matches.

Five of these 12 matches have ended in defeat for them, giving them a rather disappointing points return of 13 from a possible 36.

Adelaide United are one of those teams sitting in between them and the top of the table, with the visitors occupying 3rd position. They only have one more point than their opponents on Friday, but a win could put them within touching distance of league leaders Brisbane Roar.

Adelaide United managed to bounce back from their Asian Champions League defeat last week when they beat Central Coast Mariners 3-2 away from home on Sunday, a result which took their recent record to three wins, one draw, and one defeat in their last five matches in all competitions.

They are fairing a bit better in the A-League though, having not been defeated since the end of November and winning eight of their 11 matches since then.

But this defeat came against Melbourne Victory, and the hosts will be looking for a repeat of that 2-1 scoreline on Friday.

But that defeat for Adelaide United came at the end of a long eight matches without a win, and they find themselves in much better shape now. I think this gives them a great chance of getting something from this match, especially given that they are five games unbeaten on the road. Odds of 10/11 for an Adelaide United Win or Draw Double Chance look good value to me, and I’m predicting a high scoring 2-2 draw at 12/1 as well.
