Melbourne Victory vs Perth Glory Predictions

Melbourne aiming for victory

The hosts built on their 1-0 win at Western United on the opening day with a 3-0 victory at home to Brisbane Roar last weekend and are the only side in the division to have picked up consecutive wins to start the new season.

It’s the first time Melbourne Victory have recorded back-to-back wins at the beginning of a campaign since their 2006/07 title-winning season. They won just three of their 13 matches as hosts last term but Tony Popovic seems to have instilled a newfound belief at the football club.

Grueling period ahead for the visitors

Perth Glory contested the first of five straight away matches in this Covid-hit season last time out. The pandemic has forced the league into making the Perth-based outfit play each of their next four games away from home and the travel schedule is a nightmare. They were beaten 1-0 at Western United after a four-hour flight to Melbourne. A journey striker Daniel Sturridge wasn’t too keen on, as you may have read, with the English striker still settling in down under.

The visitors arrive here in 10th and considering they lost seven of their 13 away matches last season it’s hard to see them taking anything from this game.

Given the contrasting starts, I don’t feel I can tip anything other than a Melbourne win in this one. They seem very improved and it’s going to be a tough ask for Perth with this dreaded schedule. The hosts put three past Brisbane but I’m giving Perth the benefit of the doubt and tipping a 2-0 victory here for Melbourne.
